Date: April – May 2009
Venue: Swiv Tackle Circus
Oceanside, California
In April/May 2009, Set & Drift curated NATIVE, a group show about our evolution as natives to Southern California and as humans native to planet Earth. A multi-discipline group of creatives — including artists, designers, craftsmen, and architects — were left to tell a story of what’s “native” through their various crafts. The resulting exhibition considered ideas of impermanence, environmental issues, and cultural clashes. It featured skateboards, bikes, film, paintings, furniture, and headdresses, as well as Southern California farmers and a harvest from Swiv’s organic urban farm, a creative takeover of the sidewalk outside the gallery.
Artists + craftsmen: Tocayo, Shaney Jo Darden, Kevin Skibba, Miki Iwasaki, Josh Higgins, Jeffrey Durkin, Stacy Kelley, Sean Kelley, Jeff Black, Thatcher
Sounds: The Minor Keys, and DJ Blackass
