Native Curiosities

Photography

Date: May 2009

Venue: Wonderhaus – San Diego, California

Set & Drift built a temporary art installation for Thread, a two day festival of indie design and fashion in downtown San Diego in May 2009. Native Curiosities was a creative takeover of the flour silo at the historic Wonderbread Bakery — an interactive installation about preserving space and time.

Wood jewelry pieces by architect/furniture designer Miki Iwasaki were on display, with his hand crafted chairs available for lounging.

Also featured: native taxidermy specimens, on loan from installation sponsor the San Diego Natural History Museum, and succulents and native plants adorned in knitted, vintage threads. Shoppers were encouraged to join in this collaborative knitting effort in the repurposed silo, a refuge from the quickened pace of modern life and fashion.
