Carry On, Beasties! #1 feat. Jolby

Set & Drift gladly presents #1 in the “Carry On, Beasties!” series: a delightfully art-beastly piece by Portland based designers/illustrators Josh Kenyon & Colby Nichols (Jolby).

Ever since we first laid eyes on their work in ’09 at Subtext Gallery in San Diego, we’ve been quite enamored with their wily creations. So without further ado, for the little monsters in your life, here are some beasties… from Jolby to you:

Kwangho Lee’s latest

Came across Kwangho Lee’s recent collaboration with NAMELESS – he’s taken the woven installations we love so much and created environmental installations. Looking forward to watching this project develop!

Jan 17: Phonography at BLAH

Japanese Graphic Design, 100 Posters

If we could have taken you with us in our pockets to Venice, we might have taken you to this exhibit: Japanese Graphic Design, 100 Posters 2001-2010. We happened upon this excellent little exhibit tucked away in St. Mark’s Gallery, amongst the Architecture Biennale going on throughout the city.

Hosted by the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation, the exhibit included 100 Japanese advertising posters, selected from amongst the thousands of works submitted each year for the most prestigious awards. These 100 were selected by a committee made up of two contemporary masters of graphic art, Kazumasa Nagai and Shin Matsunaga, in collaboration with the International Hokusai Research Centre.

Here’s a few shots of the 100:

CURRENT at The Bakery feat. Kwangho Lee

Thanks for joining us for Current: an exhibition of hand-crafted design at The Bakery, featuring Black Whale, a fantastical knitted lighting installation by Korean designer Kwangho Lee, with mercantile, a pop up shop showcasing design objects by 9 American designers. We’d like to extend a monstrous thank you to all of the individuals and organizations that support us in bringing these types of events to San Diego. Take a gander here at some of our first photos of the event. Also stay tuned for Black Whale‘s reappearance this fall… and don’t be a stranger of course!
